NME

NME (New Musical Express) is a British music magazine that has been in circulation since 1949. It is largely associated with the rock, alternative and indie genres that I have decided I want to focus on for my own magazine. They make use of two media platforms, one being the magazine itself and the other being their website www.nme.com which features news and reviews alongside music videos and galleries.

This cover features the late artist Amy Winehouse. It is simplistic in design and has a totally black and white colour scheme, making it a striking and attention grabbing cover. The photo used is the only one on the cover and in keeping with the colour scheme, is in black and white. It is of the artist in medium close up on a black background. She is looking over her shoulder in direct address with the camera and viewer, with her body facing to the right. There is hardly any text on the cover save for the name of the magazine which is printed in the top left corner of the page in a bold rectangular white font, the only other text on the cover is the date of the issue and the price of the magazine written directly underneath the title in a much smaller slanted white font. A barcode is also in the bottom right corner of the cover.

This cover features artist Jake Bugg and similarly to the previous cover has a simplistic layout but instead makes use of a black, white and red colour scheme. Like previously and seemingly a common feature for this magazine, the photo on the cover is the only one present and is also in medium close up. The artist is shot on a red background wearing a tracksuit of the same colour, putting emphasis on his face. He has his arms crossed and is in direct address with the camera and viewer. There is slightly more text on this cover in comparison to the previous one. The name of the magazine is situated this time in the top right corner of the cover and is written in a bold 3D black and white font and placed at an angle. Underneath it written inside a white circle in smaller 2D black font are the words "MUSIC FILM STYLE" which are an indicator as to what a prospective buyer would expect to find inside. On the opposite side of the page written in a tall bold font alternating from black to white and having the other colour as a background is the phrase "straight outta Nottingham". The only other text is the short phrase "the reinvention of Jake Bugg" written in small white font.

This double page spread features Blur's Graham Coxon and an accompanying interview. The spread is essentially divided into two sides, the left is dedicated to an extreme close up of the artist. The photo is the only one to feature on the spread and has been taken on a white background with dull lighting. The right hand side of the spread has been dedicated to the text. There is no title as such to the spread, only a quote taken from it written above the smaller print in bold black and grey font in different sizes. The text of the interview itself is written underneath in four columns in small black text. Elsewhere on the right side of the spread there is a small detail about the artist in a black font and a tag on line written to the right of the quote at the top.

This spread features band Kings of Leon and is almost identical in layout to the previous one. The left hand side is dedicated to a photo of the band in front of a Christmas tree in medium close up. As before the right side is dedicated to the text of the interview. However, this text has an actual title in bold black font with the smaller black font used for the text underneath. There is another picture on the right side of the page and it is a smaller full body shot of a member of the band.
