Camera Shots

In print media many types of camera angles and shots can be used to create a vast range of different photos of a subject, before beginning my preliminary task I felt it would be useful to research the most commonly used shots in industry.

ECU - Extreme Close Up
This shot is taken very close to the subjects face and provides extreme detail.

CU - Close Up
A certain feature or part of the subject taking up the majority of the frame.

MS - Mid Shot
Shows some part of the subject in detail while still giving an impression of the entire subject.

MCU - Medium Close Up
Half way between a Close Up and a Mid Shot.

WS - Wide Shot
The entirety of the subject takes up the frame.

VWS - Very Wide Shot
The subject is only just visible but emphasis is on placing the subject within it's environment.

Front Covers This front cover is titled "Wilmo Weekly" it uses a single photo of a student writing in medium close up. The photo is taken slightly to the left and the subject is facing down towards the book. There is little text used across the cover. Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone is an American "indie-rock" magazine published bi-weekly and it has been in production since 1967. Not only does the magazine focus on music, it also often features references to popular culture and politics. Their target audience seems to be anyone with an interest in music, regardless of age, this is mostly due to the wide range of genres and day to day issues the magazine advertises on its covers ranging from politics to fashion. This cover features artist Lorde and is set on a blank white background with the rolling stone signature red, white and black colour scheme , the photo of the is artist slightly right from the centre . The photo is in medium close up with a strong light source and obscures only the name of the magazine which is written at the top in a signature style of the brand; 3D red italic font with white and black accents. CLASH

Clash Music is an independent music media group that produce both print and digital media through Clash Magazine and ClashMusic.com. They predominantly focus on music from the Indie, Rock and Pop genres and often feature new break out artists in their publications alongside more established artists. Clash Music utilises both their media platforms to publish news, reviews and artist features with an image gallery and forums exclusive to the website. Their magazine is published once a month and the website is updated on a regular basis. The magazine is of a peculiar layout to reflect its target audience and the genres it represents. Its front covers seem to heavily feature either; bright colours and warped images with odd layouts or blander colour schemes with striking images in the centre with bold text.
